How To Remove Ask.com As Default Web Search Engine

Last week ask.com some how got installed on my computer It has taken over all my searches and engines, no matter how many time I reset it to Google
This is worse than some viruses I have seen. After days of searching the web for answer I finally found out how to remove ask.com
I am ask.com free !!

Step 2

Go to this link first
http://media.ask.com/media/toolbar/tools/AskSearchUtility.exe
and save the file , worked for me

Try this also if the link does not work

1. Go to Control Panel in Windows itself
2. Click on Internet Properties
3. Click on General
4. Click on Search settings
5. Set new default and delete ask.com

Firefox

1. Open a new tab or window.
2. Type "about:config" and hit enter, this brings up the all powerful settings of Firefox.
3. Agree to the warning that you could mess things up
4. Find keyword.url, you probably should not change anything else
5. Double click and change keyword.url string to something else like http://www.google.com/search?q=
6. Note that you cannot just put in the web site domain, you must put in the parameters before your search query. So find your favorite search engine, do a search and grab all the text up to your actual search results. So that a search for "test" in Google returns this, http://www.google.com/search?q=test, but all you need to input into the keyword.url field is http://www.google.com/search?q=

This is a virus named W32.Sircam .It will change EXE extension

If u have Win-XP please copy rundll32.exe file

1.Windows XP CD ROM disk in the CD ROM drive.
2.Click Start, and then click Run.
3.Type expand d:\i386\rundll32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe in the Open box,. d=cdrive
4.Restart

Go to the Task Manager (Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the processes tab)

Click on the "Application Tab."

1. Right click on the application that is giving the message and select "go to process.
2. "Svchost.exe" should be highlighted. and its user name is your computer name(eg:anuraj)Make sure you dont stop “svshost.exe” which is running under windows username (SYSTEM,NETWORK, SERVICE)
3. Right Click and Select "End Process Tree"
4. Delete all “svshost.exe” files except the one which is under C:\WINDOWS\system32″
5. Restart windows

What is a Virus?

Multipartite viruses are the hybrid variety; they can be best described as a cross between both Boot Viruses and File viruses. They not only infect files but also infect the boot sector.
4. Stealth Viruses
They viruses are stealth in nature and use various methods to hide themselves and to avoid detection.
5. Polymorphic Viruses
They are the most difficult viruses to detect. They have the ability to mutate this means that they change the viral code known as the signature each time it spreads or infects.
6. Macro viruses
In essence, a macro is an executable program embedded in a word processing document or other type of file. Typically users employ macros to automate repetitive tasks and there by save key strokes
